Week One

Well we have been unexpectedly productive this first week in NZ. We already managed to drive from Auckland down to Palmerston North, making sure to keep left while driving from the right side of the car. Ian got the hang of it pretty quickly, and I haven't had much trouble either. We still tend to hit the windshield wipers when trying to use turn signals, as those are also on the opposite side of the steering wheel! We've had a wonderful time exploring Palmy, and have had some delicious coffee and tasty treats so far. Everyone we have interacted with in shops and at cafes have been amazingly pleasant. Our airbnb jet tub has really helped keep my sore muscles from seizing up after walking many miles (even more kilometers!) each day. We found a good Toyota Hilux to drive while we're in NZ, which should help when getting around…

We are almost there!

Flights booked, car rented and AirBnB aquired for the first part of this journey! It's been a stressful whirlwind trying to get everything organized to get our visas and get started on the move, but hopefully it will be worth it in the end :) After downsizing all my things, I can probably fit what I need in a few large suitcases (except for Mr. Potter - he's too big!). It's pretty weird being able to observe all your worldly possesions in a few bags, but also a bit freeing. Getting ready for final exams and packing at the same time is a bit much! Thankfully, Ian is the most amazing and supportive husband and Potter and Mango never let me have a quiet moment to get too worried about anything for too long. Here we go!
